Mini Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Advantages

Only a small group of people enquiring about a Mini Tummy Tuck are technically suitable to have it. Most would be better served with standard Tummy Tuck.

However, for those that are suitable to have a Mini Tummy Tuck, the following advantages are:

Skin Removal and TighteningA mini tummy tuck typically only removes a small amount of excess skin below the belly button and within the upper pubic area. Therefore, it only tightens the skin below the belly button and does not make any changes to the skin above the belly button. A traditional tummy tuck removes a large amount of skin, often all the skin between the pubic area and belly button. Therefore, a traditional tummy tuck tightens up all the skin along the entire abdominal wall, including above the belly button and up to the upper abdominal wall.

Scar Length—The difference in the amount of excess skin removed leads to the main difference between a mini tummy tuck and a traditional tummy tuckthe scar length. The scar for a mini tummy tuck is made along the lower abdomen at a similar level to a caesarean scar and is typically not much longer than your average caesarean scar. This contrasts with a more traditional tummy tuck scar, which is typically from hip to hip.

Belly ButtonA traditional tummy tuck also involves a scar within the belly button, required to re-inset the belly button into the tightened overlying skin. Since a mini tummy tuck only removes excess skin below the belly button, a belly button scar is not necessary.

Time in HospitalSince the surgical procedure for a mini tummy tuck is less involved and shorter than a traditional tummy tuck, most of our patients can go home on the same day of the surgery. This contrasts with a traditional tummy tuck, where patients are typically required to stay in hospital for a minimum of two days.

DowntimeAnother great benefit of the mini tummy tuck is the reduced downtime. Most of our patients can return to light activities after one week and normal activity as early as four weeks. This contrasts with a traditional tummy tuck, where you are not cleared to attempt returning to normal activity until six weeks after the surgery.
