What is a Bra Lipectomy?

An Upper Body Lift (Bra Lipectomy) is a surgical procedure that addresses excess skin and fat in the upper and middle back, as well as around the bra strap area. The procedure is performed in a private hospital under general anaesthesia. A Bra Lipectomy typically takes between three and five hours.

This procedure is often suitable for those who have lost a significant amount of weight. In these instances, the patient is left with excess skin, which can cause permanent functional and aesthetic concerns. Ideal candidates must have maintained a stable weight for at least 12 months before undergoing surgery. Additionally, they should be in good mental and physical health, understand all potential surgical risks and complications and have realistic expectations regarding their surgical outcomes.

The scar pattern for a Bra Lipectomy can vary, depending on the amount of excess skin removed. However, it typically runs circumferentially (or nearly so), extending from the back to the front of the chest wall, under the bust area where a bra strap usually sits.

Other terms used interchangeably for the Bra Lipectomy include the Reverse Tummy Tuck, Upper Body Lift, Upper Truncoplasty, Upper Back Lift and Bra Line Back Lift.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

Suitable candidates for a Bra Lipectomy have excess skin rolls in the upper and middle back regions after extreme weight loss. You must have maintained a stable weight for at least 12 months before undergoing surgery.

Most patients will stay in hospital for a minimum of two days. However, some patients will benefit from several more days (up to a week) before they are ready to return home.

We recommend you have someone with you at home for at least the first week after surgery to help with general day-to-day care.

A Bra Lipectomy is a post-weight loss surgical procedure that can be combined with other procedures, depending on your requirements and state of health. For example, a Bra Lipectomy is often combined with various forms of extended Tummy Tucks (Abdominoplasty), Breast Reductions and Arm Reductions (Brachioplasty).
