What is Post-Pregnancy Plastic Surgery?

Post-Pregnancy Surgery typically refers to a combination of surgical procedures, particularly abdominal and breast surgery. It is usually (but not always) requested by women after pregnancy and often addresses concerns such as significant abdominal muscle separation, stretch marks and loose skin around the abdomen, poor cesarean scars, reduced breast volume and breast ptosis (droop).

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty surgery also referred to as a ‘tummy tuck’, is a surgical procedure that reconstructs the midsection for a tighter, more functional body form. The procedure includes repairing weakened and separated abdominal muscles.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, also referred to as augmentation mammoplasty or breast implants, is a cosmetic surgery that involves using silicone implants to enhance the size, shape and volume of your breasts. Generally, the breast augmentation procedure enhances breast volume, shape and symmetry after pregnancy or extensive weight loss.

Breast Lift

Mastopexy, also known as breast lift surgery, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes ptotic (sagging) breasts. It can address ptosis and asymmetry issues caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging or illness. The procedure can be combined with breast implants, either as a single operation, or at a later date in a two-stage process.

Suitable candidates for Post-Pregnancy Body Contouring must be in good mental and physical health, understand all potential surgical risks and complications and have realistic expectations regarding their surgical outcomes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

No. Post-pregnancy surgery is an umbrella term that encompasses a customised set of procedures that are typically requested after pregnancy. As everyone is different, Dr Dona will assess your body, discuss your particular concerns and then suggest the surgical options appropriate to you.

No, you do not. Although the term post-pregnancy surgery is used to describe procedures typically requested after pregnancy, anyone can have this surgery (normally involving breast surgery and Abdominoplasty at the same time).

As Post-Pregnancy Surgery usually involves more than one procedure, they are often conveniently combined and performed at one time, under one anaesthetic.

The visibility of your scars will depend on the procedures you have had. Breast Reductions and Breast Lifts will have some visible scars, while a Breast Augmentation typically has only a horizontal scar under the breast fold. A mini or standard Tummy Tuck will have a horizontal scar that sits discreetly under the bikini line. More extensive Abdominoplasty procedures will have more extensive scarring. During your Initial Consultation with Dr Dona, he will clearly outline your procedures, explaining all potential scarring that may occur.

When Post-Pregnancy Surgery includes Abdominoplasty, it is possible to improve C-section scars and remove most stretch marks.

Compression garments are commonly used after surgery to help reduce inflammation and enhance healing. Patients are typically instructed to wear these garments for several weeks. Depending on your procedure, Dr Dona will inform you of the duration you will need to wear your compression garment.
