What is a Body Lift (Belt Lipectomy)?

A Body Lift is also known as a Belt Lipectomy, Lower Body Lift and a 360TT. This surgical procedure combines two operations: a Buttock Lift and a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty). It aims to remove rolls of excess skin and fat in the abdominal region, flanks and lower back. It also lifts the buttocks and pubic area.

Body Lift surgery is performed in a private hospital under general anaesthesia. The procedure typically takes between four and six hours.

Individuals who have undergone significant weight loss and have been left with excess skin and associated fatty tissue are ideal candidates for a Body Lift. Typically, the main issues driving the surgery are functional and health concerns, with aesthetics being secondary.

Ideal candidates must have maintained a stable weight for at least 12 months prior to undergoing surgery. Additionally, they should be in good mental and physical health, understand the risks and complications associated with the procedure and have realistic expectations regarding their surgical outcomes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

If you have significant excess skin and fatty tissue (around the abdominal region, flanks, lower back and pubic region) after losing a considerable amount of weight, you may be a suitable candidate for a Body Lift.

You should postpone surgery if you have not yet reached your desired weight, as further weight loss may affect the results of your surgery.

A Tummy Tuck reconstructs various areas of the abdominal wall, depending on the patient’s requirements. Alternatively, a Body Lift addresses several areas of excess skin, including the abdominal region, flanks, lower back and pubic region.

The main objective of a Body Lift is to remove excess skin; however, fatty tissue may also be removed during the procedure.

The time you take off work after your Body Lift surgery depends on your occupation. Light office or desk work can be resumed after approximately three weeks, while light hospitality work may be possible after four weeks. If your job involves heavy lifting or straining, please avoid returning to work for a good six weeks.

You must sleep on your back for the four weeks following your surgery. Placing pillows under your knees can provide gentle hip flexion (bending), which helps take the strain off your abdominal area. After four weeks, you can sleep in any position that you find comfortable.

You must wear your compression garment for six weeks following your surgery, as this will help minimise swelling and aid healing.

Everyone’s experience of pain after surgery is different. Your pain may be moderate to significantly uncomfortable. You’ll likely experience pain or discomfort near the incision marks, and also nerve pain (shooting pains and burning). However, your anaesthetist will give you plenty of medication to help manage this pain during your hospital stay. They’ll also provide you with pain medication to take home with you.

It takes approximately two weeks after your surgery before you can feel comfortable standing up straight. Similarly, it will take a good two weeks before you will feel comfortable rolling onto your stomach in bed. We recommend you avoid trying to sleep on your stomach for at least three weeks. After this, let your body’s comfort levels guide you.
