Ample, luscious, full lips are something that we all admire. A plump pout is universally synonymous with youth, and an icon of sensuality.
For years women have utilised all sorts of devices, injectables, surgery, facial rejuvenation, over the counter plumping products and massage therapies to achieve pucker perfection. However, modern day lip augmentation is a simple non-surgical procedure that uses injectable gel like products to restructure or enhance the lips.

INDICATIONS FOR A LIP ENHANCEMENT
The ‘ideal’ lips are full, natural-looking and well-defined, with a strong Cupid’s bow (the v-shaped area of the upper lip). Features such as the lip border, balance between the top and bottom lip and symmetry are vital. Even details such as those rich ridges connecting the upper lip to the nose (philtral columns) giving that lovely curve to the upper lip are highly appealing.
Younger women often want fuller lips to enhance their natural features and to feel more sensuous and feminine. Over time, loss of the lip volume occurs and replacing this lost volume can result in more youthful looking lips.
“Fillers” is the common terminology for a group of products that are made to be injected to provide volume. Over the years there have been numerous types of fillers available. However, the most commonly used fillers are hyaluronic acid based. These are complex sugar molecules found naturally throughout the body and which bind with water to hold the skin up, create volume and help reduce creases.
Dr Dona uses soft gels made of these same, naturally occurring sugar molecules to create soft, natural looking, better defined lips. Soft gels augment the natural contours of the lips and add fullness that looks and feels natural.
The dermal fillers used for lip augmentation can also be used to fill deep creases, grooves and lines, restore cheeks and even fix lumps and bumps on the nose in less than a lunchtime.
The treatment is non-surgical and involves dermal filler being administered through a few fine injections into lip lines, immediately restoring or creating volume and rejuvenating the appearance of your lips.
To minimize any discomfort, a topical or local anaesthetic can be applied.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME?
Minimal down time is needed with these injections. Most people return to their normal activities immediately after the lip enhancement. Results will be evident immediately but the final results are noted after about a week once any swelling has resolved. Results typically last 6–9 months.
ARE THERE ANY POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS?
Side effects are generally temporary and are related to the injection site. You can expect some minor swelling for approximately 1- 2 days. In some cases you may experience some mild redness, discomfort, firmness or itching which will resolve within a week. You will need to avoid make-up for the first 24 hours following the procedure. However, you can return to having a normal diet and activities immediately following the procedure.
